Day 2 - Dubbing Academy Booth Camp

Hi guys! Allow me to share with you some highlights of the Day 2 of the Dubbing Academy Booth Camp. So much content to take and absorb.

Commitment – this has been emphasized over and again not just by the Secretariats but by the important persons behind the Dubbing Academy, no less than Ama Danny Mandia.

Truth be told that when you focus your time and energy in whatever you do, even in any career you choose success will follow along.

Derek Danny sounds profession and he really knows his craft. He’s knowledgeable by sharing vital examples that were relatable and understandable.

It’s admirable to learn directly from the experts, and to know that they are passionate of what they share to us. Derek Danny and Si Choy have similar intensity of passion – not just to teach us but perhaps open the door for some to earn from the talent of dubbing.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Script – the way the script was written was skillful. It would challenge anyone who would deliver the lines.

Zoom and BR rooms – an important tool to practice and work together with the BR Mates.

Derek Danny talked about two vital topics - The Definition and Understanding about Acting and the Elements of Acting.

Derek Pinky “Kee” Rebucas

She’s professional and impressive in her wealth of knowledge.

She directed us to deliver each lines per character the correct way.

It was easy to work along with Derek Kee.

Elements of Acting:

1. Know the role

§ How to prepare for the character

§ Character study

§ Way of talking

§ Attitude of the character

2. Character relationship - know the other characters

§ Degree of Connection

§ Demographic profile

§ Situation - Start, Middle & End

§ You are required to relate and connect with the energy of other characters

§ You have to be consistent (based on the story)

3. Voice - the medium of communication

§ Identify the voice of the character

§ You have to know when to use Lower, middle and upper register

§ It’s very important to read between the lines and Interpret the lines

§ Act while you sync with the script

*Listen to the director

*Read the script while you act

4. Movement

5. Time and Space

6. Language and Text or Script

LIVE CRITIQUE by DEREK KEE

As Derek Kee joined us, I sensed that she really is a pro. She was emphatic in her words and with sincerity. At first I was trying to absorb all she said. Then, she assigned us some roles based from the script.

Real Person Voice – I was the Driver ( I liked it since it was just a 1 liner part.)

Anime Voice – I was the Yaya 3 (I was challenged to think and search who would be the right anime character who has similar low tone voice like mine, plus I got confused how to sound Yaya, since I am a man, and should be Yayo instead. Hahaha! However, I managed to sound like an anime big guy who I usually hear from the cartoons.)

PRESENTATION OF LIVE PERFORMANCE

I was given the role to do Yaya 3 with the Anime Voice and as a Driver in the Real Person Voice. We’re so glad that Derek Danny was happy with the performance though there are still things to improve.

It’s a very fun and productive Day 2! Thank you so much Derek Danny and Derek Kee for all the learnings and advice. I learned so much and excited to try more.

That's all Folks! :)
